1. Acknowledgment of Risk
I understand that participation in the Tails of Hope 5K Race and/or Fun Run ("the Event") involves inherent risks, including but not limited to: physical exertion, uneven or slippery terrain, traffic and other vehicles, weather conditions, contact with animals present at or near the Event, and the actions of other participants, spectators, volunteers, or animals. I understand these risks cannot be eliminated regardless of the care taken by the organizers. I affirm that I am physically fit and have not been advised otherwise by a qualified medical professional, or that I am participating against medical advice and assume full responsibility for that decision.
2. Release of Liability
In consideration of being permitted to participate in the Event, I, on behalf of myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns, do hereby release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue Tails of Hope – Rutland County's Humane Society, its officers, directors, employees, volunteers, sponsors, and agents (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, or causes of action arising out of or related to any loss, damage, or injury, including death, that may be sustained by me, or to any property belonging to me, while participating in the Event, whether caused by the negligence of the Released Parties or otherwise, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
3. Medical Treatment Authorization
I authorize the Event organizers and medical personnel on site to provide or arrange first aid or emergency medical treatment on my behalf if I am unable to make decisions for myself, and I agree to be responsible for any costs associated with such treatment.
4. Photo & Media Release
I grant Tails of Hope permission to use photographs, video, or other recordings of me taken during the Event for promotional, marketing, and fundraising purposes, without compensation.
5. Rules of Conduct
I agree to follow all instructions given by Event staff and volunteers, obey posted signage and traffic rules along the course, and to conduct myself in a manner that does not endanger myself, other participants, animals, or spectators.
6. Minor Participants
If the participant is under 18 years of age, this waiver must be read and signed by a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to the terms above on the minor's behalf and further agrees to indemnify the Released Parties for any claim brought by or on behalf of the minor to the extent permitted by law.
