Spay the Mom, Save the Litter
Found or own a mama cat with kittens or dog with puppies? We can help, for free. Through our Spay the Mom program, Tails of Hope will spay the mother, update her rabies and distemper vaccines, and find loving new homes for her babies, all at no cost to you. It’s our way of breaking the cycle before it starts, one litter at a time.

Who is eligible for this program?
Any Rutland County resident with a mother cat with kittens or dog with puppies can take part. There’s no cost to you.
What do I need to bring?
Bring the mom along with her litter of kittens or puppies, and we’ll take it from there.
What happens to the mom?
We’ll schedule an appointment to spay her and bring her up to date on rabies and distemper vaccines, all free of charge.
Can I get the mom back after she's spayed?
Yes! If you’d like to keep mom, just bring her in for her appointment and she’ll go home with you afterward, completely free.
What if I'd rather keep the mom and litter until the babies are ready?
That works too. We’ll schedule mom’s spay appointment with our veterinary partner and cover the cost. You can keep the whole family at home until the kittens or puppies are ready to be spayed or neutered.
What happens to the kittens or puppies?
We’ll care for them until they’re old enough to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and fully caught up on preventatives. Then, we’ll find them loving, lasting homes through Tails of Hope.
Is there really no cost involved?
None at all. Spaying the mom, her vaccines, and care for the litter are all covered as part of this program.
What if I know someone else with a mom and litter?
