Ways to Donate
1. Make a Monetary Donation
Your donations will be put directly toward our goal of creating a humane community. All programs sponsored by RCHS will continue and flourish with your generous support. Hundreds of wonderful pets will find a second chance through our Pet Adoption Center. The actual expense for each pet placed depends on many variables such as the medical needs of the pet, his/her length of stay before being adopted, special needs, etc. But be assured that the fees charged for adoption never meet the actual costs of caring for each pet during their stay with us.
Your donations will ensure quality care for the animals that need it most. RCHS is an IRS designated 501(c)(3) charity and all donations are tax deductible. Our Federal Tax ID number is 03-6006930. Please also provide us with the following information:
- Your name, address and telephone number
- Is the gift in memory or honor of someone?
- Is it a person or a pet?
The name of the person or pet - Do you want an acknowledgement sent?
- If so, who should it be sent to?
- Would you like a thank you note sent? If so, who should it be sent to?
- Would you like to be added to our mailing list?
If the donation is in memory of or in honor of a person or pet a note will be sent to the family or honoree letting them know about the donation.
2. Purchase Supplies
Shop our Wish List by using links to donate much needed supplies directly from Amazon and Chewy to RCHS. Items below in bold are those we are in desperate need of.
3. Redeemable Bottles & Cans
Donate your redeemable bottles and cans. There's a bin at the shelter where you can deposit them and the animals will benefit from the money! You can also drop them off at Green Mountain Bottle Redemption in the Howe Center in Rutland!
4. Planned Giving and Bequests to RCHS
Your legacy of caring can live on through a planned gift or bequest to RCHS. RCHS is an IRS designated 501(c)(3) charity and all donations are tax deductible. Our Federal Tax ID number is 03-6006930. 5. Donate a Vehicle
Cars aren't the only vehicles that you can donate. Motorcycles, boats, RVs, even quads can help the Rutland County Humane Society. Donating is easy.

6. Get the 'Walk for a Dog' App and raise funds for RCHS!
Get the Walk for a Dog app and you can raise funds for the animals at RCHS simply by going for a walk, run or bike ride. Click here
Please Note: We have a large donation bin outside the front door of the Adoption Center so items can be dropped off whenever it's convenient. The entrance is covered from the elements so donated items won't get wet while they're there. Staff will bring them in the next day if they're dropped off after hours.
RCHS is appreciative to the community for its continued support of donations for our animals. While we often receive donations we can use, we also receive donations which we are unable to use. As a result, we have to pay to dispose of the items we cannot use. And these costs are rising, as are many of the costs associated with running the shelter. As a result we have made a few changes to our donation guidelines.
Donations we can no longer accept include: heavily used toys/food dishes, used litterboxes, pillows, pillow cases, electric blankets, sleeping bags, rugs, carpet scraps, newspapers, heavily used cat furniture, heavily used small animal cages and heavily used wire dog crates.
